FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswick and the cities of Moncton and Dieppe will host the 9th Games of La Francophonie in 2021.

The Conseil permanent de la Francophonie (permanent council of La Francophonie) gave its final approval to the province’s bid today in Paris.

“We are pleased with the council’s decision”, said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for La Francophonie. “It is a great honour for New Brunswick. We look forward to organizing this event with the cities of Dieppe and Moncton and the community.”

The Games will give the host region and New Brunswick the opportunity to promote themselves on the international stage. The estimated economic spinoffs for the province are $25 million, including $22 million for the host region.

The Games are open to all New Brunswickers between the ages of 18 and 35, regardless of their language preference.
