FREDERICTON (GNB) – The province launched a new job board and career information website today during the provincial jobs summit People, Skills, Jobs: Putting our resources to work.

The announcement comes two days before the public is invited to a provincial job and career fair being held May 14 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Delta Hotel in Fredericton.

"Our government has been working hard to connect people, skills and jobs, and we are doing that through a multi-faceted plan," said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister, Jody Carr. "Today we have brought stakeholders together to discuss our labour market challenges at the summit, and we are launching some impressive online resources for the labour market. What's more, on Wednesday we are hosting New Brunswick employers and inviting job seekers to come out and apply for jobs available right here at home."

The new job board and career information website will provide people with a single site entry to the world of work in New Brunswick. It will help people successfully navigate the province's complex job market.

"The new comprehensive job board will help people find jobs, and the client-focused career information aspect will help users find the information necessary to make better informed decisions more quickly," said Carr, "For example, the site will provide information on careers, educational or skills development pathways, as well as information for employers on how to find, manage and retain employees."

While the online tools help connect people, skills and jobs, the provincial job and career fair will enable face-to-face connection by bringing together employers, students and job seekers.

In addition to employer booths, the job and career fair will feature information on post-secondary educational opportunities, training and employment programs, career information as well as access to assistance in making career choices, writing resumes and preparing for job interviews.

"Our government is taking action," said Carr. "The job and career fair joins several other similar events that are taking place across the province this spring. With our labour market activities like this, our training and employment programs, and these new information tools, we are fulfilling our commitment to facilitate and match available jobs with skilled labour, as outlined in our Labour Force and Skills Development Strategy."

The provincial government supported a job and career fair in Moncton earlier this spring and two events are planned for northern New Brunswick. Earlier this week, a labour market forum was held in Bathurst and a job fair specifically for persons with disabilities is scheduled for June 4 at the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick campus in Campbellton.

"Our government has been working with a variety of different sectors including industry, business, First Nations and youth to help grow our economy and put our resources to work," said Carr.
