FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is modernizing the Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program and taking the politics out of the application process.
“I am proud that our government supports removing politicians from the choice of which organizations will receive youth employment weeks,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “Getting the politics out of youth employment will produce better experiential learning for our youth, helping us develop a skilled workforce for the New Brunswick economy.”
The program pairs students with New Brunswick employers during the summer months. In order to focus on the students’ developmental needs, placements will no longer be recommended by MLAs.
This year, students will complete an online application for the program and will receive labour market information. Prospective employers will also fill an online posting to offer jobs. Students will then be able to choose to apply for the positions most suited to them. Program co-ordinators from the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour will be available to assist with this process.
“Our government’s number one priority is job creation,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry. “The program allows us to build a more job-ready workforce by helping young people accumulate valuable experience and make connections.”
Online applications for students and employers will be available on April 1.
More details about the program, including the number of positions available, will be announced soon.
