MONCTON (GNB) – The Skills Canada National Competition will be hosted in New Brunswick for the first time from June 5-8.

“Skills tradespeople are in high demand in the New Brunswick workforce and are essential to growing our economy, which is why we are excited to welcome this national competition to our province,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry. “I encourage New Brunswickers to attend this free and exciting opportunity to see the skilled trades in action.”

The Skills Canada National Competition is the only national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in the country. It is an Olympic-style competition that actively promotes careers in the technology and trade fields.

The competition will draw more than 500 competitors from across Canada to compete in more than 40 skilled trades. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to try trades, watch the best in the country compete at tasks associated with their trade, and gather information about becoming a tradesperson.

The Skills Canada National Competition is a free event and will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 6-7 at the Moncton Coliseum Complex.
