Overview

The Department delivers the Canadian GED Online program to adults wishing to prepare for writing the General Education Development (GED) tests. It assesses learners’ academic skills and creates a customized learning plan based upon learners’ current knowledge and affords learners the opportunity to study at their own pace from home or at a location within their community when their schedule permits.

Eligibility

The program is open to adults nineteen years of age and beyond who possess the skills what would enable them to be successful. It is offered free of charge to residents of New Brunswick.

Description

This self-paced 150 hour/four month online preparatory program is delivered via Internet Explorer Version 6 or above and contains:

Canadian content and instruction in English or in French;

GED subjects (Math, Language Reading, Language Writing, Social Studies, Science and Essay Writing) with a completion time frame of approximately one month per subject;

a pre-test for each GED subject - results obtained from the pre-tests determine the number of lessons learners needs to study while avoiding having to review concepts already understood;

a post-test for each GED subject – results obtained from the post-tests determine if learners are ready to write the GED tests. If additional information is needed, lessons can be reassigned and redone;

a secure user name and password (needed to access the online program) are provided during the learners’ orientation process; and

online mentors who monitor learners’ work and provide assistance throughout the course of the program.
