BATH (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $3.2 million from the 2018-19 capital budget for renovations at Bath Community School.

 “Investing in education is crucial for the health of our families and helps grow our economy,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “We continue to invest to modernize our infrastructure so we can offer our students the best learning environment possible and stimulate the economy.”

The existing middle school was built in 1954. In September 2015, it also began serving students in kindergarten through Grade 5 when the nearby elementary school was closed.

“Investing in our infrastructure so that our students can learn in positive environments is key,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Andrew Harvey. “We are renovating this school to ensure it will support current and future students in the Bath area.”

Harvey spoke on behalf of Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brian Kenny.

The work will include renovations to ensure current building code requirements are met. A classroom will be added and learning spaces will also receive upgrades, along with mechanical and electrical systems, and the building’s exterior. Site improvements will also be included in the project. Students will move into the elementary school next door while the work is taking place.

Work is scheduled to be completed in summer 2019.

The 2018-19 capital budget includes investments of $105.8 million in schools.

The government’s 10-year education plans aim to improve educational outcomes and better prepare young people for the future. They set objectives in priority areas to create lifelong learners, support educational leaders and bring stability to the system.
