FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued by Premier Blaine Higgs for National Acadian Day, Thursday, Aug. 15:

The August 15th celebrations provide an opportunity to underscore the important contribution of the Acadians to the development of all sectors of our province, including the economic, social and cultural sectors.

Through their determination, vitality and courage, the Acadians profoundly influenced New Brunswick history and society and are an integral part of its future. The language, culture, and traditions of the Acadians add significant richness to our province’s diversity.

In combination with the activities of the 2019 Congrès mondial acadien, this special day allows us to pay tribute to the rich history of the Acadian people from here and elsewhere.

I invite all New Brunswickers to join with me in celebrating Acadie. August 15th provides great opportunities for get-togethers and discoveries, as well as a wide variety of activities organized around New Brunswick.

Together, let us celebrate the province’s Acadian heritage.
