FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement of condolence was issued today by Premier Blaine Higgs:

It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of former MLA and cabinet minister Hazen Elmer “Hank” Myers.

Born and raised in Norton, Hank had a 20-year career at Stelco in Hamilton, Ont., before returning to New Brunswick where he and his wife, Joyce, bought a family grocery business in Sussex.

Hank had a long political career which started in municipal politics on Sussex Town Council and led to the legislative assembly. He served as a Progressive Conservative member for Kings East from 1978 to 1987 and from 1991 to 1995. He became minister of Agriculture in 1985.

To the family and many friends of Hank Myers, on behalf of the people and Government of New Brunswick, Marcia and I offer our sincerest condolences.
