FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Child Death Review Committee has reviewed the death of a child whose family was known to the Department of Social Development. The results of the review were released today by Chief Coroner Gregory Forestell.

The committee reviews the deaths of children under the age of 19, including those who were in the legal care of the minister of Social Development, or whose families were in contact with the department within 12 months before the child's death.

The review was into a 3-month-old boy who died of complications associated with a sudden unexpected death in infancy in the context of an unsafe sleep practice. The family was known to Social Development through the Family Enhancement Services Program.

The committee did not make any recommendations in this case.

The Child Death Review Committee advises the Office of the Chief Coroner, which is part of the Department of Public Safety.
