PETIT-ROCHER (CNB) - La Gare - a new tourist information centre that is a replica of a train station - officially opened today.

The ceremony was attended by Education Minister Roland Haché and Petit-Rocher Mayor Pierre Godin.

"Improving the visitor experience by investing in tourist infrastructure is one of the objectives set out in the Action Plan for Self-Sufficiency in Northern New Brunswick," said Haché.

The minister was speaking on behalf of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also the minister responsible for the Northern New Brunswick Initiative."

"This fine project to build a station in Petit-Rocher was made possible thanks to the Government of New Brunswick and the involvement of Minister Haché," said Godin. "This initiative was led by councillor Gaston Frenette. I wish to thank both in a special way. The municipal council is happy to provide shelter to travellers who are taking the train. Once again, Petit-Rocher is part of the railway network in Canada. During the summer, this centre will serve tourists."

The provincial government invested $125,000 in the project.
