CHARLO (CNB) – The provincial government is forming a partnership with a local cross-country skiing club to develop its facility into a cross-country skiing and biathlon development centre.

Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault made the announcement today with Marc Levesque of le Club des Aventuriers de Charlo, a local not-for-profit organization.

“Investing in infrastructure for sport development, sport-event hosting and sports tourism in an action item identified in An Action Plan for Self-Sufficiency in Northern New Brunswick 2010-2013,” said Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Northern New Brunswick Infrastructure Initiative.

Under the Northern New Brunswick Infrastructure Initiative, the provincial government is investing $429,000 in the creation of a new multi-purpose building, a paved and lit 1.4-km training course, covered and lighting shooting range, trail upgrades, fitness station and agility centre.

“Thanks to the partnership that we have developed with the community and various levels of government, le Club des Aventuriers will become a four-season, multi-sport development centre,” said Levesque.

The centre will be a training and development facility for cross-country skiing and biathlon. It will be available to area schools as well as to other sports requiring cardio, agility and muscle building.
