EDMUNDSTON (CNB) – Provincial and municipal officials joined residents of Edmundston’s Verret neighbourhood to celebrate the opening of the Centre communautaire Mgr-Eymard-Desjardins, the area’s new community centre.

“The provincial government is proud to be a partner in this major community infrastructure project,” said Madawaska-les-Lacs MLA Yvon Bonenfant.

Bonenfant attended the ceremony on behalf of Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud.

“A centre like this gives people a place where they can get together, which is important for the quality of life of the area residents,” said Edmundston Mayor Jacques Martin. “We are delighted that we were able to receive support from the provincial government to help us with the project.”

The centre will host activities for different age groups, particularly seniors and community groups.

The provincial government invested $150,000 in the construction of the centre.
