BATHURST (CNB) – Thing5, a provider of call centre services, has expanded its operations in the province and created a new facility with 51 employees in Bathurst.

“Thing5 has a longstanding relationship with our province and we welcome its creation of  jobs in Bathurst,” said Premier David Alward. “Our government is working to help businesses to grow.”

Alward said that the provincial government is committed to creating an economic environment conducive to developing employment opportunities in Bathurst and the Chaleur region.

“Thing5 has been a proud business partner with the people and the Province of New Brunswick since 1999,” said company vice-president Robert Campbell. “The Bathurst community provides a wonderful opportunity and we are very excited about our expansion here. We look forward to continued success in this location.”

The new jobs will contribute almost $1.5 million to the province's gross domestic product annually.

The provincial government provided support to the company in the form of a $275,000 payroll rebate through Invest NB; and $77,000 for leasehold improvements under the $200-million Northern New Brunswick Economic Development and Innovation Fund.

Invest NB's mission is to identify and pursue opportunities for strategic and commercially viable foreign direct investments in New Brunswick. Guided by a private sector board of directors, the Crown corporation offers personalized services tailored to the needs of expanding companies and provides financial assistance when required and as appropriate to secure investments.

Thing5 is an American-based contact centre solutions provider which began its operations as Virtual Agent Services (VAS) in 1999. With the Bathurst centre included, the company has 15 centres throughout the province with a regional head office in Moncton. With about 700 full-time jobs in New Brunswick, the company is a significant part of the customer service contact center industry which employs more than 18,000 in the province.
