LAMÈQUE (GNB) – Provincial and local officials participated today in the official re-opening of Secours Amitié, a local non-profit group.

"This new expanded location provides this important community group a greater place to better serve the needs of residents of Lamèque Island and the surrounding area," said Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud.

Last July, the provincial government invested $90,000 in this community infrastructure project, which included the costs of renovating and expanding a new facility that will serve as a base for the local non-profit group to assist residents.

"We thank the provincial government and Minister Robichaud for supporting this project," said Brigitte Gauvin, co-founder and president of Secours Amitié. "These new facilities now offer a more discreet environment for our food bank clients as well as larger premises for our staff and volunteers. This allows us to be more efficient and to accommodate a larger team of volunteers."
