SALISBURY (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are investing in an improvement project for Highland Park in Salisbury.

“The provincial government invests in community projects such as Highland Park to promote active, healthy lifestyles,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet. “We are proud to be a partner in this important recreational community project for the village.”

Doucet spoke on behalf of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“The federal government understands that building a strong country begins in our local communities with support for vital community infrastructure,” said Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart. “The upgrades to the Village of Salisbury’s Highland Park will bring families and residents together to participate in healthy and inclusive activities, while at the same time attracting visitors to the village, bringing new growth and benefits to the area for years to come.”

Lockhart attended the event for federal Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, who is also minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

The project will upgrade and expand the park, including additional and improved trails, revitalized playground structures and the addition of a natural play zone with a story circle made from flagstones and cedar logs, a climbing wall made out of cedar logs and hemlock, as well as two climbing structures and an outside loveseat constructed from a 150-year-old cottonwood tree.

The provincial government is investing $25,000, while the federal government is contributing $100,500 through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program. The Village of Salisbury is contributing $100,000.

We are excited to see the increased use of Highland Park and look forward to seeing the outcome of this current project.”
