SAINT ANDREWS (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $16,500 toward roof repairs at an arena in Saint Andrews.

"Our government's investment will help ensure the W.C. O'Neill Arena remains usable for the entire Saint Andrews and Charlotte County region for many years to come,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “Investing in recreational infrastructure for our people is important to help them lead a healthy and active lifestyle."

Ames made the announcement on behalf of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“On behalf of the Town of Saint Andrews, I want to thank the provincial government for its quick assistance in support of our funding request for emergency roof repairs,” said mayor Doug Naish. “The arena has always been, and remains, a hub of community activity: recreation, theatre, business, tourism and town government. It is an asset we cannot do without.”

‎The investment was made possible through the Regional Development Corporation’s Family and Youth Capital Assistance Program. It enables community groups, non-profit organizations, local service districts and municipalities to obtain funding for youth- and family-related projects such as playgrounds, sports or recreational facilities, community centres and equipment.
