DALHOUSIE (GNB) - The provincial government is investing up to $330,000 in Phase 1 of an energy refit project at Recreaplex in Dalhousie.

“New Brunswickers want their government to make investments to help the economy and that will improve their quality of life,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “The Recreaplex is a vital component of our community and offers many programs for physical, emotional, mental and social health. Investing in recreational infrastructure for our people is important to help them lead a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Phase 1 of the project includes upgrades to the ventilation system which includes replacing the heat pump, pool water heater and a new return well, which will help reduce operating costs.

“Our regional facility requires upgrades to reduce our energy consumption and increase the reliability of mechanical equipment,” said Maurice Legere, Recreaplex board member. “We would like to thank the provincial government for this investment and our Chase the Ace fundraising partner, the Dalhousie Rotary Club, for ensuring the long-term viability of the Recreaplex.”

Constructed in 1989, with an addition built in 1995, Recreaplex is a multipurpose facility which includes an indoor 25-meter pool with a 30-metre (100 foot) water slide, Tarzan rope, kiddy pool and slide, sauna and hot tub. The facility also has a new fitness center.
