MEMRAMCOOK (GNB) – The government is investing $150,000 in improvements to the LeBlanc Stream promenade in Memramcook in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

“We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful province of breathtaking landscapes, where we rejoice in its cultural diversity and welcoming spirit,” said Memramcook-Tantramar MLA Bernard LeBlanc. “Our investment in this project will enrich Memramcook’s downtown while marking our nation’s 150th anniversary.”

LeBlanc attended for Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The improvements will include: renovating the beginning of the promenade; repairing the platform, floor and balustrades; adding a parking lot; installing interpretation panels and flags with the municipal and Canada 150 logos on Centrale Street; and linking points of interest with the beginning of the promenade.

“This infrastructure upgrade will bring a breath of fresh air to the core of our village,” said Memramcook Mayor Michel Gaudet. “We have so many beautiful vistas in the Memramcook region, and this project will help us solidify our position as one of the prettiest villages in all of Canada. I express our gratitude to the Province of New Brunswick for this important funding.”

Funding is provided under the Program for Municipal Development to Commemorate Canada’s 150th Anniversary. Municipalities with populations of more than 4,000 and less than 25,000 were eligible to apply for funding of up to $150,000 for beautification projects to contribute to a vibrant and attractive downtown and to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary.
