DALHOUSIE (GNB) – The provincial government is committed to investing $500,000 in a $1.1-million turbine infrastructure project.
“Through our multi-year economic growth plan, we will invest in generating renewable energy to create jobs, all the while combatting climate change,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “We hope this commitment will help bring other partners to the table so this project can become a reality.”
The Regional Development Corporation is providing the funding through the Northern New Brunswick Economic Development and Innovation Fund toward the purchase and installation of a 99-kilowatt micro hydro turbine. It will be embedded in the Charlo Dam pipeline to generate electricity, which will be sold to NB Power.
“We are hopeful to find a third party to invest in this project for the town, and we thank the provincial government for their substantial contribution,” said Dalhousie Mayor Normand Pelletier. “This project is a valuable asset to the town and will generate $80,000 to $100,000 per year.”
The Town of Dalhousie and the provincial government reached a 10-year water supply and service agreement in 2016. The Regional Development Corporation acquired the dam and the 14-kilometre water pipeline from Abitibi Bowater in 2009.
