DOAKTOWN (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are investing $207,356 towards helping the Atlantic Salmon Museum and the Central New Brunswick Woodsmen's Museum upgrade their respective facilities.
“Tourism is a major component of your government’s multi-year economic growth plan,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “We are proud to invest in these museums, so they can continue to commemorate the economic and cultural significance of Atlantic salmon and forestry in all parts of New Brunswick.”
The provincial government is investing $66,310 in these community projects through the Miramichi Regional Economic Development and Innovation Fund. The federal government is providing a total of $141,046 through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency to the projects.
The renovation project at Doaktown’s Atlantic Salmon Museum includes roofing, flooring and upgrades to the museum’s main lobby, gift shop, kitchen and exhibit areas.
Renovations at the Central New Brunswick Woodsmen’s Museum in Boiestown include electric upgrades and relocating the entrance.
“These investments demonstrate the Government of Canada’s commitment to strengthening our communities and improving the quality of life of all Canadians,” said Miramichi-Grand Lake MP Pat Finnigan. “We recognize that investing in community infrastructure is essential to strengthening the middle class and helping municipalities support a high standard of living for everyone.”
Finnigan attended the event for the federal Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, who is also minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
