MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $425,000 into four sports and tourism-related infrastructure projects in Miramichi.

“Our investments in these important community projects will be used to promote healthy living for students, residents and families as well as to attract tourists to the Miramichi region,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

An investment of $150,000 will be made for improvements to the brick and paved walkways, stairs and boardwalk, expanding the park area at Ritchie Wharf. The expansion of French Fort Cove will receive $100,000 for a family friendly bike trail, a children's skills park and playground equipment.

“We are excited to once again be partnering with the provincial government on these strategic investments to our parks and recreation infrastructure that will make the spaces more vibrant, enhancing quality of life, and providing even more sport and leisure options for both our residents and tourism visitors,” said Miramichi Mayor Adam Lordon.

At Miramichi Valley High School, $110,000 will be invested for new field lights and a backstop at the school’s softball field and fencing at the tennis courts. An investment of $65,000 is for upgrades and repairs to the community track at James M. Hill High School.
