FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following message was released today by Social Development Minister Sue Stultz in recognition of National Adoption Awareness Month:

As we celebrate November as National Adoption Awareness Month, I thank all those who have welcomed into their lives a child or young person who is in need of a loving family and a place to call home.

This month is an opportunity to celebrate those who have made the important decision to have a child or children join their family. It is also a chance to raise awareness about the many children and young people in the province still waiting to be adopted.

We all know the importance of family. Adoption means a chance for these children to have a lasting bond with a family of their own.

Every child should know what it means to have a family support system to help, encourage, support and nurture them. Every child should know there is always someone in their corner and on their side.

I acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the staff working to match children with loving families. I also recognize the work of the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation in promoting and raising awareness of the importance of adopting children.

To those who have adopted or are waiting to adopt, I commend you for opening your hearts and homes to adopt a child or youth.

It is the department's goal to ensure every child and young person has a family to call their own.  I encourage those who are considering adoption to contact their regional office of Social Development.
