GRAND BARACHOIS (CNB) – A federal-provincial project to retrofit and renovate the Appartements Barachois, a 10-unit affordable housing complex for seniors, has been completed.

"I am proud that the provincial government has helped New Brunswickers care for their families by investing in improvements to affordable housing for seniors," said Social Development Minister Sue Stultz, who is also minister responsible for Seniors, Housing and Community Non-Profit Organizations. "The repairs and renovations not only improve the safety of the building but also the quality of life for the residents."

Appartements Barachois inc., at 10 Henri Rd. in Grand Barachois, received $225,000 for work which included electrical work, roofing repairs, ventilation and energy improvements.

"The Government of Canada is proud to have contributed to this project through Canada's Economic Action Plan," said Fisheries and Oceans Minister Keith Ashfield."These renovated 10 units will provide quality, affordable housing for low-income seniors, and benefit the economic and social well-being of the community."

Ashfield spoke on behalf of Diane Finley, minister of human resources and skills development and minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

Funding was made available through Canada's Economic Action Plan. The federal and provincial governments contributed equally to the overall investment of almost $74.6 million under the amended Canada-New Brunswick Affordable Housing Program Agreement.
