FREDERICTON (GNB) – A sod-turning ceremony was held today to mark the official start of construction of two, 18-bed specialized care bed homes. They are being built by Shannex Inc. as part of its Parkland Retirement Living campus in Fredericton.
"I am pleased that our nursing home plan is moving forward with the construction of these facilities," said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. "The creation of these specialized care beds will enhance the quality of life for our seniors suffering from Alzheimer's disease or dementia by ensuring they are cared for in the right environment with the right level of services for their needs."
Specialized care beds are part of the provincial government's 2011-2016 Nursing Home Renovation and Replacement Plan. During the next five years, 704 of these beds will be created.
"Once these facilities are completed, seniors will have access to the support and care they need in their community," said Dubé. "Providing seniors with quality care is a key part of our government's plan to rebuild New Brunswick."
Specialized care bed homes will provide enhanced services to seniors who suffer from Alzheimer's disease or dementia and require Level 3 care. These clients may require assistance with daily activities but do not need ongoing nursing care or supervision.
