GRAND MANAN (GNB) – The new Grand Manan nursing home officially opened today.

The $12.2 million, 30-bed replacement facility is located at 642 Route 776.

"Moving New Brunswick forward means ensuring that our seniors get the care they need and have the quality of life they deserve,” said Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers. “A new nursing home for Grand Manan was necessary, and will go a long way to providing an updated and more comfortable facility for all the residents who call this place home.”

The facility has 23 single rooms; three double rooms; one bariatric room; a rehabilitation therapy room; dining, living and family rooms; service areas such as a hair salon, gift shop, multipurpose room and chapel space along with an enclosed exterior courtyard.

“Seniors have committed their working lives to building the New Brunswick that we have today,” said Rogers. “Now, it is our turn to take care of them and provide the quality care they deserve.”

Construction of the nursing home began in May 2012, and was completed in September 2014.
