MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The contract to provide 240 new nursing home beds in Miramichi has been awarded to Shannex RLC Ltd.

“Taking care of New Brunswick’s seniors is important to your government,” said Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris. “With this new addition to our province’s nursing home infrastructure, as well as investments in the Home First Strategy, we continue to work to ensure our seniors receive the quality care they need and deserve.”

Shannex will provide new homes for current residents of both the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home and Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home.

The company was selected after an open procurement process that began in the summer of 2016.

“I am so proud to be standing here today to announce the awarding of the contract for our new nursing home beds,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “This is a great accomplishment for the Miramichi region and for our seniors.”

Fostering healthy aging and support for seniors is one of the seven priority areas outlined in the New Brunswick Family Plan framework, which also focuses government action on: improving access to primary and acute care; promoting wellness; supporting people with addictions and mental health challenges; advancing women’s equality; reducing poverty and providing support for persons living with a disability.
