FREDERICTON (GNB) – The process of selecting the builder of a new nursing home in Fredericton is underway.
“I am so proud to be able to say that this project is moving forward,” said Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris. “This new nursing home in Fredericton will help us meet current and future needs in the region and ensure seniors receive the care they need and deserve.”
It was announced in 2015 that a new 60-bed nursing home would be built in the city.
“These additional beds will increase our capacity so that more seniors are able to receive the appropriate level of care while remaining in their community,” said Harris. “It will also address the number of seniors in hospital who are awaiting a nursing home placement.”
Proponents were invited to submit requests for qualification earlier this year. Three were chosen to move forward to the request-for-proposals stage and will submit formal proposals to the government in the coming weeks.
Fostering healthy aging and support for seniors is one of the seven priority areas outlined in the New Brunswick Family Plan framework, which also focuses government action on: improving access to primary and acute care; promoting wellness; supporting people with addictions and mental health challenges; advancing women’s equality; reducing poverty and providing support for people living with a disability.
