MONCTON (GNB) – The contract to build a 60-bed nursing home in Moncton has been awarded to Shannex Inc.

“Building new nursing homes is about so much more than bricks and mortar; we are ensuring New Brunswick seniors have the best care possible should they need it,” said Finance Minister Cathy Rogers. “Thanks to important partnerships such as the one we have announced today, we will soon have a new and modern nursing home for Moncton-area seniors.”

Rogers spoke on behalf of Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris.

The company was selected after an open procurement process that began in early 2017. The nursing home will be built at Shannex’s Faubourg du Mascaret campus on Morton Avenue.

“We look forward to serving the needs of an even greater number of seniors in the community and are pleased with how well our campus has been received since its opening,” said Jason Shannon, president and chief operating officer of Shannex.

Fostering healthy aging and support for seniors is one of the seven priority areas outlined in the New Brunswick Family Plan framework, which also focuses government action on: improving access to primary and acute care; promoting wellness; supporting people with addictions and mental health challenges; advancing women’s equality; reducing poverty and providing support for people living with a disability.
