Artists invited to participate in National Artist Program (08/12/11)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Artists 16 to 22 old are invited to participate in the National Artist Program (NAP) of the 2009 Canada Summer Games. Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Hédard Albert made the announcement today.

"The NAP is a unique opportunity for young New Brunswick artists to showcase their talent while participating at the 2009 Canada Games," Albert said. "While performing, the artists will celebrate artistic and creative excellence, just as the athletes work toward excellence in sport."

The NAP is a two-week mentorship and developmental artistic program that takes place as part of the Canada Games. Each province and territory will use a jury process to select three emerging artists. The NAP members of Team NB will be drawn from the following categories:

  • literary arts (poetry, prose, playwriting, spoken word, storytelling);
  • visual arts (painting/drawing, sculpture, printmaking, installation, photography, film/videography, and other multimedia);
  • dance/movement arts (dancers of all styles, choreographer);
  • theatre arts (acting, improvisation, set design, costume design, director, circus arts, interarts); and
  • music arts (performer, conductor, composer).

The deadline to submit applications is Jan. 16, 2009. Program information and application forms are available at www.gnb.ca/sport/2009/index-e.asp.

The 2009 Canada Summer Games will be held in Charlottetown and Summerside, P.E.I., Aug. 15-29, 2009.
