Wheelchair athletes invited to try out for New Brunswick team (08/12/23)

MONCTON (CNB) - Wheelchair athletes are invited to try out for the New Brunswick team that will compete at the 2009 Canada Summer Games.

An initiation clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at the CEPS Louis-J-Robichaud, Université de Moncton, for those interested in trying out. The clinic will feature Barry Patriquin, 2004 Canadian paralympic champion and 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games bronze medalist in the 4 x 100 metres.

Those who are interested do not need racing experience to attend the clinic. The objective is to identify potential athletes who are interested in track and field, and who wish to compete at the national level. Participants will learn about chair setup, racing techniques and training methods.

In order to participate in the 2009 Canada Summer Games, athletes must be under 30 years old as of Dec. 31, 2009. Able-bodied competitors cannot compete in wheelchair events.

Athletes from all four Atlantic provinces are invited to take part. Racing chairs will be available.
