HALIFAX (CNB) – The New Brunswick men’s hockey team surprised on Saturday by beating Manitoba 6-4 in the first game of the hockey tournament of the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

Six  players scored for New Brunswick in their first game. New Brun swick led 5-1 at one point during the game. New Brunswick lost 8-5 to Nova Scotia in ringette competition. Nathan Pelletier established a provincial record in the 3,000 m speed skating long track race by beating the old mark by five seconds in a time of 4:54.820.
