HALIFAX (CNB) – New Brunswick athletes won four medals following the first week of competitions at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

Participants of the first week take to the buses for the return drive home Saturday while the second week athletes arrive in the Nova Scotia capital city.

“We did have a very good first week of competitions,” chef de mission Stéphane Hachey said. “We won four medals, and a number of athletes came very close to the podium. The boys and girls did their best and gave their all in every event. I am looking forward to our second week of competitions.”

Athletes in alpine ski, archery, badminton, boxing, cross country skiing, men’s curling, figure skating, women’s hockey, judo, snowboard and synchronized swim will be featured during the second week. The national artist program participants will continue their events.

The New Brunswick women’s hockey team meets Alberta on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in the first game of the second week of competitions.

New Brunswick finished 9th in wheelchair basketball, 7th in ringette, 8th in men’s hockey, 6th in women curling, 5th men's and 6th in women's speed skating, 9th in men's and 10th in women's target shooting, 6th in men's and 7th in women's biathlon and 8th in both men's and women's artistic gymnastics. New Brunswick has 45 games flag points.
