FREDERICTON (GNB) – Team New Brunswick will participate in a rally and salute at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, to prepare for the upcoming 2013 Canada Summer Games.

"The weekend rally and salute is the perfect opportunity to help prepare our team members for their experience at the Canada Games," said Stephane Hachey, chef-de-mission for Team New Brunswick. “With the Canada Games only two months away, this is a great opportunity to build team spirit and bring everyone together."

More than 300 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff will attend the event, which will consist of team-building, training and orientation sessions. Premier David Alward and Healthy and Inclusive Communities Minister Dorothy Shephard will bring greetings.

The rally will culminate in a team salute between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, at the fourth-floor performance gymnasium of the Richard J. Currie Centre, located on the campus. The public and media are invited. Parents, dignitaries, invited guests and supporters will join Team New Brunswick for the salute.

This will be the only occasion when most of Team New Brunswick convenes. During the Canada Games, only half the team is in attendance at any one time, as there are two separate weeks of competition.

The Games will be held Aug. 2-17 in Sherbrooke, Que., bringing together 4,200 athletes to compete in 20 disciplines at 20 sites. Team New Brunswick will consist of 415 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff.
