SHERBROOKE, Que. (GNB) – Team NB’s men’s soccer team meets Newfoundland and Labrador in a quarter-final match on Thursday, Aug. 15, at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

The 2-0 men’s team earned a trip to the quarterfinals with a 1-0 victory over Ontario Wednesday morning. Team NB won the game on penalty kicks after playing to a draw in regulation time against Ontario. A quarterfinal victory would send the men’s soccer team into Friday’s semi-finals.

New Brunswick’s rowing team has earned a well-deserved day off Thursday after several crews advanced to A finals on nearby Lac Magog. The medal events will take place Friday and Saturday.

The golfers return to the course for their second round of play today at the Milby Gold Course. Patrick Livingston of Fredericton is tied for third spot. Sam Young of Rothesay and Travis Soucoup of Sussex round out the men’s team, which sits tied for fifth in the overall team standings. The women’s team composed of Molly MacDermaid of Bathurst, Krysta Schaus of Fredericton and Claire Konning of Indian Mountain is tied for sixth spot in the team standings.

The women’s beach volleyball duo of Judith Desjardins and Brittany Robinson, both of Fredericton, play Prince Edward Island in the consolation round.

The road cycling team has the day off Thursday after participating in Wednesday’s road race through the streets of downtown Sherbrooke. Stuart Wight, of Riverview, placed 7th. The team of Wight, Julien Roussel of Dieppe, Neil Symington of Sussex, Marc Evers of Dieppe, Devin Doiron of Rogersville, Natalie Cormier of Memramcook and Julia Cormier of Hanwell, return to the streets Saturday for the criterium.

Team NB’s athletics squad returns to the track Thursday for several events, which sees several New Brunswickers competing in A Finals. Team NB enters competition Thursday with six medals, three golds, one silver and a pair of bronze.
