PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. (GNB) – Faith Steeves scored a hat trick and Marlene Boissonnault recorded a shutout in New Brunswick’s (1-0) 14-0 win over the Northwest Territories (0-1) in women’s hockey on the first day of competitions, Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Canada Games, in Prince George, B.C.

Janell Graham scored two goals and Abbey Beale, Maddy Murphy, Grace Graham, Brooke Murphy, Andrea Dinan, Caitlin McCabe, Lindsey Donovan, Janie Poitras and Leah LeBlanc, each scored a goal. Donovan recorded five assists and Maddy Murphy, Brooke Murphy and Catherine Haché, added three each.

Team New Brunswick (0-1) couldn’t keep up, losing 7-4 against Manitoba (1-0), in ringette action. Miguelle Proulx lead the attack, scoring two goals. Amélie Gould and Jenny Snowdon scored the other goals. Britney Snowdon added two assists. Both teams exchanged goals in the first two periods.

Competition commences Sunday for alpine skiing, archery, gymnastics, biathlon, men’s curling, and speed skating.
