PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Team New Brunswick’s  Jédrick Imbeault, of Saint John, landed a bronze medal in judo Wednesday at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C.

“I feel good,” said Imbeault, right after his medal performance. “It has been more than four years that I have trained for this moment."

Imbeault’s bronze-medal performance gives Team New Brunswick 10 medals after Day 12 at the Canada Winter Games.

In men’s pre-novice figure skating, Andrew Boudreau, of Belledune finished seventh while Jolain Benoit, of Brantville placed ninth. The pre-novice women’s figure skaters Valérie Déry, of Bouctouche, skated late Wednesday, finishing seventh and Malika Boudreau, of Petit-Rocher, placing 11th

In women’s curling, Team New Brunswick defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 7-5 Wednesday. The 2-2 Fredericton foursome faces Team Nova Scotia in Thursday’s morning draw.

The men’s hockey team defeated Team Prince Edward Island 5-1 Wednesday to claim its first victory of the Games. Ethan Crossman, Sam Leblanc, Mika Cyr, Dominik Reid and Peyton Hoyt were the New Brunswick goal scorers. Team New Brunswick faces off against Team Alberta in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Team New Brunswick’s trampoline contingent of Andrew Polegato, Melli Adam-Reimer, Noah McCoy, all of Fredericton, and Dieppe’s Mélisande Logelin placed eighth in Wednesday’s mixed team trampoline competition.

The women’s squash squad defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 3-1 in team competition. Stephanie Babineau, of Moncton, Veronique Cyr, of Dieppe, and Julia Cook, of Moncton, won their respective matches while Jane Woodworth, of Moncton, lost to her opponent. The boys team and the Northwest Territories were 2-2. Bryson Woodworth, of Moncton and Éric Melanson, of Dieppe, won while Luke Burton, of Fredericton, and Sébastien LeBlanc, of Dieppe, lost.  Both Team New Brunswick’s men and women squads return to team competition play Thursday.

Team New Brunswick’s synchronized swimming duets hit the pool Wednesday. Megan McGuigan, of Fredericton, and Josee Thomas, of Beresford, placed 11th in the preliminaries while Jill Downey, of Rothesay, and Emma Morrissy, of Fredericton, finished one spot behind in 12th. Both duets return to the pool Friday for the finals. New Brunswick was 6th in team events.

The cross-country ski team returns to the trails at Otway in the free-style events.
