WINNIPEG (GNB) – Miramichi’s Laura Dickinson will be Team New Brunswick’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg on Friday, July 28, at 7 p.m. CDT (9 p.m. ADT).

“I am honoured to be chosen to carry the New Brunswick flag at this year's opening ceremony,” said Dickinson. “I will be representing a talented group of athletes. We will not only have great performances, but we will have lots of spirit. We will support our teammates across all sport disciplines throughout the games.”

Team New Brunswick chef de mission Nicole Smith will make the announcement to athletes, coaches and managers during the Team New Brunswick pep rally on Friday.

Dickinson, 17, is a member of South-East Athletics. She will lead the New Brunswick delegation into Bell MTS Place, the site of the opening ceremony.

Prior to the Canada Summer Games, Dickinson participated in the 2017 Pan American U20 Track and Field Championships in Trujilo, Peru, where she claimed gold in the 5,000-metre race. In 2016, she won Athletics New Brunswick awards for youth female athlete of the year and youth cross-country female athlete of the year.

Team New Brunswick will conduct practice sessions Friday before competition begins on Saturday.
