WINNIPEG (GNB) – New Brunswick’s women’s basketball team will tip off against Team Yukon Monday at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

The perfect 2-0 squad defeated British Columbia 75-63 today in the second day of competition. Sandy Saunders, of Grafton, was the top scorer for Team New Brunswick with 16 points.

“It was a full team effort,” said Alyssa Lebans, head coach. “The players were more confident today and we are looking forward to making the push to the quarter finals.”

The men’s basketballers (1-1) will play Prince Edward Island Monday evening.

The men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams hit the sand for the first time today. Both squads lost their opening matches to host Manitoba in the morning. Both teams were scheduled to play Ontario late this evening.

In baseball, Team New Brunswick was to play host Manitoba late this evening. The team lost 9-2 to Prince Edward Island in a morning match. On Monday, they will face Ontario.

The men’s softball team will play British Columbia and Manitoba Monday.

The sailing team finally managed to hit Lake Winnipeg for the first time today. However, a lack of wind in the morning postponed the races until mid-afternoon. The team is expected to return to the Gimli Yacht Club Monday for a second day of racing on the lake.

Athletics, triathlon and rowing make their Canada Games debut Monday.
