WINNIPEG (GNB) – New Brunswick’s basketball teams will play against Saskatchewan on Thursday at the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.
The women’s squad battled back from a six-point half-time deficit to defeat British Columbia 67-61 today and earn the right to play against Saskatchewan for fifth place.
“We have proven over the week that we can compete against anyone here,” said Alyssa Lebans, head coach of the women’s team.
The men’s team will face Saskatchewan for seventh place after losing a heartbreaker game 72-71 to Nova Scotia today.
The women’s squad completed competition today by defeating Northwest Territories 7-0.
In softball, the men’s team defeated Alberta 7-6 and will play for final positioning Thursday.
The women’s beach volleyball team ended competitions today with a pair of victories against Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island. The men defeated Prince Edward Island to advance to Thursday’s placing match against Quebec.
Thursday’s competition also calls for the return of athletics, triathlon, sailing, rowing and men’s mountain biking.
The rowing team will hit Kenora’s Rabbit Lake with contention for medals as the quadruple female scull, female pair, and lightweight four male are in finals. In sailing, Team New Brunswick will return to Lake Winnipeg for more racing after a rest day today.
The triathletes will participate in the team relays at Birds Hill Provincial Park and there will be sprints in men’s mountain biking.
