PRINCE WILLIAM (GNB) – Kings Landing Historical Settlement has received a $300,000 increase in operational funding as part of Creative Futures – A Renewed Cultural Policy for New Brunswick .

“This increased funding will help Kings Landing continue to flourish, deliver on its important mandate and provide valuable services to visitors,” said Fredericton-Silverwood MLA Brian Macdonald, who attended for Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder.

As part of the renewed cultural policy, the provincial government will direct an additional $1.3 million to New Brunswick’s five key cultural institutions.

“This additional funding allows Kings Landing to continue to develop new, relevant programming and unique experiences for guests,” said Kings Landing Corporation executive director Kevin Cormier. “We are pleased to continue our work with the provincial government to strengthen New Brunswick’s heritage resources.”

Creative Futures is the result of a multi-year renewal process that focused on the four areas of action identified in the 2002 policy:

  • culture’s role in our everyday lives, including education, access to culture and cultural awareness;
  • the role of artists, arts organizations and arts infrastructure in creating a vibrant cultural sector;
  • conserving our collective heritage and ensuring quality design and planning; and
  • the role of culture in economic development.

Kings Landing Historical Settlement is an outdoor living museum in which 19th century New Brunswick comes to life. It is comprised of approximately 300 acres, more than 70 period buildings and employs 150 people.
