FREDERICTON (GNB) – Planning kits for Heritage Week 2015 are now available for all interested groups and individuals.

In New Brunswick, Heritage Week 2015 will take place from Feb. 9 to 16. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the adoption of both the Canadian and New Brunswick flags. For this reason, the theme is Hope Restored; a concept taken from New Brunswick’s provincial motto.

“Heritage Week is a proud tradition that enables us to share New Brunswick’s culture and history,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Bill Fraser. “Events like these help us to strengthen partnerships, increase educational opportunities, and create vibrant communities.”

Over the past weekend, Fraser met with members of the Nackawic High School boys basketball team, the Nighthawks, to prepare nearly 2,000 kits for groups and individuals throughout the province. This information will assist in organizing activities. Among other items included in the kit is the Heritage Week 2015 poster which features artwork by New Brunswick student Janie Thibodeau of École Soleil Levant in Richibuctou.

“I encourage all heritage organizations, educators, municipalities, and individuals to help us commemorate by ordering a planning kit and hosting a local event,” said Fraser. “Collectively, we can reflect on what we hold dear about our province and our nation.”

Groups and individuals wishing to order a planning kit can contact the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture at 506-453-2324, or by email at [email protected]. They can also register their Heritage Week event on-line.
