FREDERICTON (GNB) – The public is invited to the launch of three new exhibits that will mark the official start of the summer season at the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 15.

“Our team is excited to kick-off the start to our summer season with a newly-expanded interactive space that will feature the Biomechanics and Sports Discovery Centre, and two other new exhibits,” said Jamie Wolverton, executive director of the hall of fame. “It is loaded with interactive and interesting components which connect the achievements of our most accomplished athletes to the principles of biomechanics.”

The centre, in a newly-developed area of the facility, is the result of a partnership with Wayne Albert of the University of New Brunswick faculty of kinesiology. The area includes a number of interactive stations, much like a science discovery center, featuring the principles of biomechanics and sport participation.

“Children and families will have fun while learning about our rich sports heritage,” said Wolverton.

The two other new exhibits feature a collection of historic silver trophies and a collection of works from one of Canada’s most-celebrated sports photographers.

Glorious Victory: Trophies of the NB Sports Hall of Fame will feature the museum’s most emblematic silver trophies including the Ganong Cup and the Trojan Cup. An interactive component will connect youth to the art of trophy making. The curator of this exhibit is Beth Briggs, the creator of the Clarkson Cup.

Occupation Sports Photographer:The Photography of Dan Galbraith features works by Galbraith who photographed Canadian athletes in nearly every major sporting event over the past 30 years. A selection of his photographs of New Brunswick athletes is displayed along with the stories that accompany them.

The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, at 503 Queen St. in Fredericton, is open throughout the summer, Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 for students, $3 for adults and $8 for families.
