CAMPOBELLO ISLAND (GNB) – The Friars Bay Development Association, through the Community Cultural Places Program, is receiving a grant of $75,000 for improvements to the Welshpool Community Hall.

“The Welshpool Hall has served many purposes,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “It has provided a venue for concerts, fairs, community meetings, basketball games and training courses for fishermen. After all of that, this old hall will be taking on a new life.”

The program provides funding to communities wishing to take advantage of their existing arts and heritage resources.

“I feel that this project has the potential to be a fantastic draw for tourism in the area,” said Ames. “These improvements will generate greater community pride and promote cultural heritage. The hall will be available for a variety of cultural and social functions for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.”
