GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD (GNB) – On Saturday, July 8, the community of Grand Bay Westfield will kick off the first of five New Brunswick Day celebrations taking place in communities across the province in recognition of Canada 150.

“This is an especially exciting summer to explore our province,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “With Canada 150 celebrations, we have tall ships, an amazing high-tech show about our history called MALA projected onto the front of the legislature, special exhibits at our many community museums, and great ideas for day trips and getaways on our tourism website.”

The Grand Bay-Westfield celebration will be held at the River Valley Community Center. It will start at 11 a.m. with an opening ceremony and run until 2 p.m. The day’s activities will include local artisans and crafters, arcade box, bouncy castle, jumbo slide, air trampoline and feature live entertainment from Tomato Tomato, Daniel and Maurice and native drumming. There will also be a free hot dog barbeque and trolley shuttle service.

“Grand Bay-Westfield is proud to lead off the first of five NB day celebrations in acknowledgement of Canada 150,” said Grand Bay-Westfield Mayor Grace Loiser. “We look forward to sharing this day with family, friends and visitors as we share our pride of community, province and country.”

Celebrations will also take place in Florenceville-Bristol on July 15, in Miramichi on July 22 and in Dorchester on July 29. The official New Brunswick Day will be held on Aug. 7 in Edmundston.

The public is encouraged to visit the Canada 150 NB website, Canada.ca/150 website, use the hashtag #NBProud, and follow @Canada150NB on social media and share why they are proud to be New Brunswickers.
