MIRAMICHI (GNB) – On Saturday, July 22, Miramichi will host the third of five New Brunswick Day celebrations taking place in communities across the province in recognition of Canada 150.

“To be able to celebrate New Brunswick Day during the Irish Festival is a great way to honour our rich Celtic history,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “Our province has so much to offer, and this summer’s special Canada 150 events and celebrations make it a perfect summer to rediscover our beautiful and diverse province.”

The Miramichi celebration will start at 11 a.m. and include activities for the entire family, such as live entertainment, along with a free hotdog barbecue and cake.

“This will be a great weekend to celebrate our province, our country and our Irish heritage,” said Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris, who is also the minister responsible for Celtic Affairs. “The Irish Festival attracts people from all over to Miramichi, and celebrating New Brunswick Day will make it extra special.”

“We invite everyone to come celebrate with us,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “Not only will there be lots of great live entertainment and fun activities for the kids during the celebration, but our region has so much to offer in terms of attractions like Middle Island, Ritchie Wharf, Beaubears Island, community museums, fishing and canoeing, just to name a few.”

Fraser spoke on behalf of Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames.

Grand Bay-Westfield and Florenceville-Bristol have already hosted early New Brunswick Day celebrations. The festivities continue Saturday, July 29, in Dorchester. The official New Brunswick Day will be held on Aug. 7 in Edmundston.
