EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – After weeks of lead up celebrations around the province, Edmundston will play host to the official New Brunswick Day celebration on Aug. 7.

“We have so much to celebrate and be proud of as New Brunswickers. We have breathtaking landscapes, a growing economy, and the nicest people you will find,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “Edmundston is a dynamic city filled with innovative businesses, great educational opportunities with its EduPole, and people that get things done by working together. We are very excited to celebrate New Brunswick Day with our friends the Brayons and Brayonnes.”

The celebration will start at 10 a.m. and conclude with fireworks in the evening. The official welcome ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in Place des artisans (Artisans’ Square). The day’s activities will include a free hotdog BBQ and cake, musical performances, buskers, face painting, inflatable games and displays by artisans.

“This New Brunswick Day is a special one as we celebrate not only the pride we have in our province, but also Canada 150 and the important role our province has played in Canada’s history,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry. “I encourage everyone to celebrate all that makes us proud New Brunswickers.”

Landry commented for Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames.

New Brunswick Day has been celebrated since 1976, with an official host community being chosen every year since 1990. In celebration of Canada 150, four other communities (Grand Bay-Westfield; Florenceville-Bristol; Miramichi and Dorchester) each hosted a celebration on a Saturday in July leading up to New Brunswick Day.
