FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswickers are encouraged to make the most of winter as they unwind with family and friends over the holidays.

By exploring the various winter activities the province has to offer, New Brunswickers can improve their health and wellness while celebrating the province’s reputation as a four-season tourism destination.

Tourism is an important economic driver and job provider. The industry employs 42,100 people in New Brunswick, contributing $522 million annually to the provincial GDP. For every public dollar spent on marketing the province, there is a return of $3.19.

Earlier this year, the government launched the first comprehensive provincial tourism strategy in almost two decades. New Brunswick Tourism Growth Strategy: New Tourism Economy identifies product and experience innovation as a key pillar for growth and, as such, includes novel and traditional winter activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Some of the winter activities detailed on the Tourism New Brunswick website include:

  • Hit the slopes. The province gets three to four metres of snow each year and is home to the largest vertical in the Maritimes. Add to that thousands of kilometres of cross-country trails, and New Brunswick is a skier’s paradise.
  • Fire up your snowmobile. With 8,000 kilometres of snowmobile trails, New Brunswick has a trail that is right for anyone.
  • Come in from the cold. Visit one of New Brunswick’s world-class museums, art galleries, theatres or activity centres for some indoor fun.
  • Catch some events. New Brunswickers are always up for a celebration, and winter is no exception. Add some winter festivals to your to-do list this holiday season.
  • Play in the great outdoors. Go snowshoeing at Sugarloaf, cross-country skiing at Mactaquac or dog sledding at Mount Carleton. New Brunswick’s provincial parks have plenty of fun winter adventures.
