FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $82,000 to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the New Brunswick Art Bank.

The investment by the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is being allocated to the Beaverbrook Art Gallery to help engage three emerging curators from the francophone, anglophone and First Nations communities to create a provincial touring exhibition to mark the 50^th anniversary.

“In the last 50 years, the New Brunswick Art Bank has built a unique and tremendous collection of visual artworks of New Brunswick artists that have contributed to our quality of life and cultural richness,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “Our government is proud to support the celebration of this important anniversary through strong partnerships such as the one with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. This will also ensure that emerging curators will be equipped with a variety of perspectives, skills and knowledge to fulfill their future role in art institutions and organizations and to nourish the role of the New Brunswick Art Bank.”

Under the agreement, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery will collaborate with other New Brunswick art institutions as the project moves forward.

In addition to the provincial touring exhibition, the new curators will also create an exhibition catalogue that will better familiarize them with the wide range of New Brunswick contemporary artists.
