RED DEER, Alta. (GNB) – New Brunswick’s men’s hockey team returns to the ice on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Canada Winter Games, in Red Deer, Alta.

The men’s team lost 5-2 to Quebec on the first day of competitions Saturday, Feb. 16. MacLaren Dick and Dominic Leblanc scored for New Brunswick. They face Team Ontario Sunday afternoon.

Team New Brunswick (0-1) could not keep up, losing 8-5 against Manitoba (1-0), in ringette. Team New Brunswick flag bearer Britney Snowdon lead the attack, scoring two goals. Janika Ouellet, Ariane Hebert and Madisson Gaudet scored the other goals. The ringette squad returns to the ice on Monday afternoon against host Alberta.

The cold temperatures could not keep long track speed skaters off the outdoor oval Saturday. They return to the ice Sunday while short track speed skating competitions begin Sunday.

Competition also commences Sunday for artistic swimming, artistic gymnastics, biathlon, boxing and wheelchair basketball.
