FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswickers are invited to mark the beginning of 2017 at the lieutenant-governor's annual New Year's Day Levee from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1, at Government House in Fredericton.

The levee has been held every Jan. 1 for almost 200 years, and has become an event for families from across the province.

“I invite New Brunswickers to join my husband, Ronald, and me as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation in Canada – and New Brunswick’s place in it,” said Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy Vienneau. “Government House is ‘New Brunswick’s Ceremonial Home’ and I invite both young and old to mark this special occasion with us.”

Roy Vienneau will make a special proclamation to open the levee, and Fredericton’s Cultural Laureate will deliver a poem written for the occasion.

Visitors can tour the historic residence and take a photo with the lieutenant-governor. There will be music, and traditional food will be served.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Greener Village Food Bank. Parking is available behind the Victoria Health Centre.
